Pretoria

• Pretoria, also known as the "Jacaranda" city, thanks to the purple-flowered trees that mark its roads, it is a city of great beauty and tranquillity.

• "Pretoria" has a long self-history, and wonderful historical South African partnerships, and you will find important old buildings and wonderful museums there.

• Pretoria is in the transition zone between Highveld and Bushveld, about 50 kilometres north of Johannesburg, in the north-east of South Africa. It lies in a warm, fertile valley surrounded by hills from the Magaliesburg, a range of 1,370 meters (4,495 feet) above sea level.

• “Pretoria” was founded in 1855 by “Marthinus Pretorius”, the leader of Voortrekker, who was named a leader after his father, “Andres Pretorius”, and he chose a spot on the banks of “Apies River” (or the River of Monkeys in Afrikaans) as the new capital of the Republic of South Africa (ZAR).

• Pretorius the Elder became a patriotic champion of Voortrekker after defeating the Dingan and Zulus tribes in the Battle of Blood River.

• "Pretorius the Elder" also negotiated the "Sand River Convention" (1852), in which Britain recognized the independence of the Transvaal region.

• Pretoria became the capital of the Republic of South Africa (ZAR) on May 1, 1860 AD.

• The establishment of "Pretoria" which is the capital of the Republic of South Africa can be considered as the end of the settlement movements in Boers.

• Pretoria is completely a tourist and historical landmark in South Africa. Recently, Pretoria has become a popular tourist destination, due to several reasons, including the modernization of the city in all aspects of tourism, and thanks to the famous trial of the athlete, Oscar Pistorius.
