Sir Bani Yas Island

Overview:

Sir Bani Yas Island is the largest island in the coast of Abu Dhabi and was the private island of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder of the United Arab Emirates. Thanks to decades of conservation efforts, it is now home to thousands of large, free-roaming animals and several million trees and plants. A bird sanctuary and wildlife sanctuary, it is also a great place to get in touch with nature.

There are many activities to do on Sir Bani Yas Island; From cultural and historical tours, to mountain biking, safaris and kayaking to pearl diving, this nature reserve is home to many species such as the Arabian oryx, Somali ostrich, deer, antelope, giraffes and dolphins.

You must be a guest at Desert Island Resort & Spa by Anantara, to enjoy the island.

Sir Bani Yas Island also includes the only Christian monastery discovered in the United Arab Emirates, which can be visited during tours of the Desert Island Resort and Spa. It is believed that the monastery was built around the year 600 AD, then it was abandoned in the year 750 AD. It was discovered during excavations on the island in the year 1992 AD.
