Al-Assad National Library
Overview:
• Al-Assad Library is the national library of the Syrian Arab Republic.
• It was officially inaugurated under the auspices of the late President Hafez al-Assad on 11/16/1984.
• It is located at the western edge of the city of "Damascus", overlooking the "Umayyad Square".
Architectural Description:
• The total area of the building is 22 thousand square meters, surrounded by gardens with an area of 6 thousand square meters, and it consists of nine floors.
About the library:
• The library pays attention to the contemporary Arab cultural heritage to collect selections from it on all subjects and to preserve the ancient Arab heritage (manuscripts). The library seeks to collect what is available from these manuscripts in the Syrian Arab country and maintain them by sterilization and restoration and keep them in appropriate repositories.
