Overview:
The date of its construction dates back to the year 1743 AD, it is located in the Al-Jazzarin neighborhood, and it was built by the Bey Hussein bin Hussein, known as Bouhanak, who was buried in this mosque after his death. The mosque, which witnessed many scholarly sessions of Sheikh Abdul Hamid bin Badis, knew a famous incident in 1934 A.D. after a Jew made urine on the wall of the ablution room of the mosque. This caused an atmosphere of tension between the Algerians and the Jews supported by the colonial authorities, the events had been developed until massacres occurred in which a number of Algerians who were jealous on their religion were died.
The sanctuary of the mosque, which has a rectangular shape, is located on the first floor and can be entered through two open doors in the wall opposite the mihrab, and it was classified in 1905 AD, and its decoration remains a witness on the history of its construction through the roof and wooden columns. The scholar Ibn Badis took from Lakhdar Mosque a school to form the elite that carried the torch of reform and took the hand of the nation to teach it its religion, correct its beliefs and unite its ranks against colonialism, and he taught and interpreted the Qur’an, in addition to the arts of tongue science, for a period of 25 years.
