Mosquée Emir Abdelkader

Overview:

Emir Abdelkader Mosque is classified as the largest mosque in Algeria, not only that, but also one of the largest mosques in North Africa, which accommodates 15,000 worshipers in addition to a large square that can include thousands of others. It is located in the heart of the city of Constantine, the capital of eastern Algeria. It is distinguished by the height of its two minarets, each of which is 107 m high and a dome 64 m high.

The mosque also includes a large university, Emir Abdelkader University for Islamic Sciences, which is very similar to Al-Azhar Mosque in Egypt, in terms of the historical conditions of its establishment, its scientific role. The idea of establishing the university came parallel to the project to build Emir Abdelkader Mosque, which along with the university is a landmark of Islamic architecture in Algeria and Africa in general. A large number of highly qualified Muslim architects specialized in Islamic architecture from Egypt and Morocco as well as Algeria contributed to its achievement.
