Abu Qubaib Mosque (Masjid Abu Qubaib)
Overview:
- Abu Al-Qubaib Mosque is a prominent Islamic cultural landmark in the State of Qatar, and a beacon for the Islamic Dawa, and it is located in Old Al-Ghanim area.
It acquires an advantage and symbolism over other Qatari mosques, because it dates back to the era of Sheikh Jassem bin Muhammad bin Thani, may God have mercy on him, founder of the State of Qatar.
- The mosque was rebuilt by the Special Engineering Office of the Amiri Diwan five years ago, according to its first ancient architectural style, as this heritage landmark that every Qatari is proud of has preserved the form of forty-four domes based on columns that show strength and pride that distinguished the State of Qatar, especially as it was the headquarter of the ruler.
- The mosque can accommodate more than 1,300 worshipers in the prayer hall designated for men, and it also has a prayer hall for women that can accommodate about 85 worshipers, in addition to some public facilities such as the 24 baths and 30 ablutions, as well as the imam’s house, as the mosque is located in the souks (Markets) area, central Doha.
- The minaret of Al Qubaib Mosque (Sheikh Jassem bin Muhammad Al Thani) in Doha, 1878 AD, is the oldest model of minarets known in Qatar, and the minaret has a cylindrical body, which shows the architectural influence of minaret architecture in Turkey and the Arabian Peninsula. Then followed the emergence of new models of minarets that can be distinguished depending on the historical sequence, as from the 13th - 14th century AH / 19-20 AD there were minarets with a cylindrical body, an octagonal body, a conical body, a square body, and a short square body.
