Mallah Soliman Bridge (Al Sonsor Bridge)

Overview:

• Mallah Soliman is considered the only iron bridge in Constantine dedicated to pedestrians, unlike the rest of its seven bridges that carry the daily burden of life that does not stop in this old city. At a length of 125 meters, it extends to connect Larbi Ben M'hidi Street with Romania Street and the railway station at Bab Al-Kantara. Its width is 2.50 meters. It has wooden spiral staircases through the ancient rock and it is five floors, the people of Constantine fear from them due to their worn-out position. As for its elevator, it can accommodate 10 people, and it costs 5 dinars only to transport each one of them to the other bank from the heart of the city. Once you open its doors, you will find yourself at the entrances to the most ancient neighborhoods and streets.

• Historical sources mention that the French engineer, Ferdinand Araudan, started building the bridge, which is a miniature model of Sidi M'Cid bridge in 1917 AD, and completed it in 1925 AD.
