Mont Royal
Mont Royal is a hill or small mountain, located in Montreal, immediately west of Montreal Downtown, and from which the city of Montreal took its name.
The hill is a part of Monteregian Hills situated between Laurentian Mountains and Appalachian Mountains.
The hill consists of three peaks: Colin de la Croix, at 233 meters high, Colline d'Outremont (or Mount Murray), at 211 meters high, and Westmount Summit at 201 meters above sea level.
In June 2017, during the celebrations of the 375th anniversary of founding the city, the city officially renamed Qutremont Peak (Tiohtià: ke Otsira’kéhne, Mohawk), meaning "the place of the big fire", reflecting how the hill had been used for a fire beacon by First Nations people.
