Théâtre de Carthage

The Roman theater or the circular theater

Overview

It is a building of imposing dimensions, with a capacity of more than 10,000 spectators.

The theater was built in the second century AD near the Odeon plateau, and it constituted an important cultural space in that period for the inhabitants of Carthage who were fond of theatrical and musical performances and the art of simulation and philosophy.

During the fifth century, it was demolished by the Vandals, and it was only in the late nineteenth century that it came to light, when it was partially restored and reused to present theatrical novels and concerts.

Since the sixties and after being completely rebuilt, this theater has been receiving performances by major songwriters and the most famous theater and folk troupes, both national and international.
