Moulay Slimane Mosque

Overview:

The mosque is one of the ancient mosques in the city.

The reason for its construction is that the Sultan "Moulay Al-Yazid" was recognized as leader of (Salé and Rabat) while he was in the Al-Haram Al-Mashishhi, and the people of Fez pledged allegiance to him as well. So it was required building three mosques in the three cities as a reward for them for taking the initiative to pledge allegiance to him.

He issued his order in Jumada al-Awwal in 1205 AH while he was in Meknes Al-Zaytoun. Then, he began building the R'cif Mosque. But when he died, the completion and initiation of the two mosques of "Al-Adoutin", Rabat and Salé, stopped.

Abu Al Rabi'a continued the work after him by completing the first mosque, and constructing Al Gazzareen Mosque in Salé and the Sulaimani Mosque in Rabat.

The mosque was built in 1226 AH / 1812 AD.

Moulay Slimane ordered the architect, "Al Mu'ti ibn Al Tayyib Merino", to expand the qiblah of the mosque, which is said that there was a small mosque from the days of the Almoravids in its position.

Its Imams:

Muhammad ibn Muhammad Babna (1352 AH / 1932 CE) is one of the readers of the seven modes of recitation (the Qira'at), who wrote a book about Qura'n, and was an imam and preacher at the Moulay Slimane Mosque in (1330 AH / 1912 CE).
