Saint Catherine Church in Zahrat Al Ihsan Monastery and School
Overview:
The credit for the establishment of this church goes to a young woman named “Labiba Ibrahim Jahshan” who belongs to an ancient Beirut family who lives in Gemmayzeh.
Architectural description:
In the church, there is a large icon of the Virgin Mary (The Lady of Vladimir) by a Russian painter, and in its structure, there are ancient Russian icons, and other ancient and modern icons decorate the walls.
Historic overview:
In the year 1880, Mother Mary (Labiba) established an orphanage, a school, and a monastery for the Greek Orthodox under the patronage and supervision of "Zahrat al-Ihsan Society" and under the intercession of Saint Catherine the Great.
In 1950, St. Catherine Church was consecrated with its beautiful iconostasis (hand-drawn by Ibrahim Abdo Jabbour).
