Algiers

Algiers is the capital of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, and it is also called White Algeria; This is due to its bright white buildings, with an area of 440 square kilometres, and it is located on the western shore of the Mediterranean Sea.

Algeria was established in 944 AD, and it was before its official establishment a commercial center, and it was the political center of the Berber Zorid Sanhaja dynasty until the 12th century, and in the 16th century the Ottoman Empire took control of the city, and in 1830 AD the city and the state were completely occupied by French forces. The capital was known at that time as the capital of French Algeria, until its independence in 1962.

Population of Algiers: The population of Algiers region is estimated at about 3.4 million, and the population density is about 11,000 people per 8,300 square kilometres, and a different group of people from many backgrounds and countries reside in it, and about 53% of people speak Arabic, and 44% of the population speak the Berber language, while 3% of its inhabitants were born in a different country.

Casbah: The old Casbah is the heart of the city of Algiers, and it is a narrow maze of the streets, and contains many Ottoman palaces, most of which are gathered around Ketchaoua Mosque at the end of Ahmed Bouzarina Street, and there were some fierce battles during the Battle of Algiers happened in this place. 

Dar Hassan Pacha: It is considered one of the historical sites in Algeria, and has the name of its original owner Hassan Pacha, who was the ruler of Algeria in the past, and Dar Hassan Pacha is one of the largest palaces in the city, and the building contains a group of ornate manuscripts, and contemporary arts of Arabic calligraphy by artists from different regions of North Africa, and the Middle East.

The shrine of the martyr: This memorial was built to commemorate the Algerian War of Independence, and is distinguished by palm leaves and an eternal flame.

Beni Hammad Fort: This Fort, which is included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, is located in the southeast of the city of Algiers, and it was the first capital of Hammadid dynasty.
