Al Khor

Al Khor, meaning "Little Bay", is a city located on the eastern coast of the State of Qatar on the southern bank of a creek extending 3 kilometres into the mainland, and it is about 50 kilometres from the capital, Doha.

The population of Al-Khor city is about 30,000 people, according to the last census of 2004.

Two main roads connect it with the capital, Al Khor Road and Al Shamal Road.

Al Khor was called in the past, Khor Shaqeq, and the city of Al Khor includes a number of residential neighborhoods, and it is located to the north of the Al Khor, Ras Laffan Industrial City. New centers are being constructed, a food center has been built, and there is in it the Sultan Beach Hotel, and Al Khor Corniche also.

Al Khor City is considered at the present time one of the largest cities in Qatar and it contains all modern services such as schools, Al Khor Sports Club and Al Khor General Hospital that serves Al Khor city and its suburbs.

The city of Al Khor was famous in the past for its fishing port and the natural pearl trade, and the nature of the site of Al Khor had an attractive component for its residence since ancient times, as monuments from the Neolithic period 5500 BC were discovered west of Al Khor and monuments from the Bronze Age 300 BC on Ibn Ghannam Island (Purple Island), east of Al Khor
