Melbourne

- Melbourne is the capital and largest city of the Australian state of Victoria.

- It is the second largest city in Australia after Sydney, with a population of 4,077,036 (2010).

- Its area is 8,860 km2 and its urban area is 6,100 km2, which is what is known as Greater Melbourne, where the northern and western suburbs extend from the city center to about 20 km, and the suburbs extend eastward to 40 km, and their maximum extension to the southeast reaches 50 km.

- Melbourne is the administrative and commercial center of the state of Victoria, and includes 30% of Australia's factories. It is the main port and transportation center for the state of Victoria.

- Over 8,000 factories, including heavy industry and oil refineries, are located in the Melbourne metropolitan area near port facilities.

- Small industries, food and beverage industries, clothing, footwear, printing and paper are spread on the outskirts of the city and in the suburbs.
