Toledo

Toledo city is one of the most important famous cities in Spain, located 70 km south of Madrid. The city sits on high mountains, surrounded by valleys that Tagus River runs between them. The city had a population of 84,019 in 2012.

It considers one of the oldest cities, it was built in Greeks times and flourished in Roman times, as they built the great bridge and the theatre and it was developed in Islamic caliphate. 

In the medieval it was known as ”City of Tolerance” as Christians, Muslims and Jews lived side by side in the city, in roman era it was known as Toledo and it means “ Fortified City” and Arabs called it “city of kingdoms” because it was the capital of Kingdom of the Goths.

In 712, the city conquered by Tariq bin Ziyad after he beat the Goths in Battle of Guadalete, in Mohammed Ibn Abd Alrahman time, the city flourished and the architecture stood out.

Church of Santo Tomé, Church of Santiago del Arrabal, Toledo Cathedral, Church of San Román, church of Cristo de la Vega, Mosque of Cristo de la Luz.
