Lausanne

• Lausanne, a very important European city, is located in the country of "Switzerland" in its French speaking part.

• It is located on the shores of the lake known as "Lake Geneva".

• Lausanne is about sixty kilometres from the Swiss city of Geneva, and on the road between Geneva and Lausanne, there are many picturesque landscapes, including Lake Geneva, in addition to many green hills, apart from the Alps.

• In addition, “Lausanne” is the capital of the region known as the “Vaud Region,” and this region is located in the east-west of Switzerland, between the two important cities, “Bern” and “Geneva”.

• The city of Lausanne also has an oceanic climate; this climate is mainly characterized by its rainfall throughout the year, in addition to moderate temperatures with cold in the winter.

• The "city of Lausanne" gained great importance because of the university which was established in it, in addition to hosting many conferences.

• This city was historically associated with the Ottoman Empire. Lausanne is the city that embraced the most important treaty in the history of the Ottoman Empire which is the Treaty of Lausanne, and it is also called the Second Treaty of Lausanne. This treaty was signed on the twenty-fourth of July 1923 AD, and accordingly the situation between Eastern Thrace and Anatolia was settled by nullifying the previous treaty, which is called the Treaty of "Sèvres". This treaty resulted in international recognition of the Turkish Republic, which replaced the Ottoman empire.

• The "Treaty of Lausanne" was able to define the borders of many countries, including Bulgaria, Turkey, and Greece, in addition to the Arab Levant region. Under this treaty, Turkey waived its claim to the Dodecanese Islands and Cyprus, in addition to its waive of Sudan, Egypt, Syria, and Iraq. Turkey also waive the privileges it had in Libya, and finally the borders between Syria and Turkey have been reconsidered.

• The "city of Lausanne" is the golden base of the Olympic Capital, as it is considered a model for art, history and culture.

• Its archaeological and tourist attractions are the cathedral of Saint-Midi, the Church of Saint Lawrence, the Rumine Palace, the Botanical Garden, the Palud Square, the Gruyeres Castle, the Lausanne Historical Museum and the Olympic Museum of Lausanne.

• Globus Market: This market is considered one of the largest markets and stores in the city, as it contains the best international brands. It also contains a supermarket and a vegetable section on the first floor.

• The vegetable market: It is one of the most beautiful and elegant markets in the city, where vendors roam around, offering vegetables, fruits, fish, and fresh meats.

• Fleur de pains Market: This market is located in the city center. It offers delicious food and sweets, as well as cold and hot drinks.
